Statutory maternity pay and statutory sick pay rates, are frozen for next year.
The Government have proposed no annual increase and the rates will be frozen in many statutory rates, including maternity, paternity, shared parental, adoption and sick pay.
As it currently stands, the weekly rate of statutory maternity pay and other parental payments is at £139.58, or 90% of the employee’s average weekly earnings, if this figure is less than the statutory rate.
There are no requirements to state that these rates should increase every year, however they normally increase each April, in line with the consumer price index (CPI). CPI fell by 0.1% in the year to September 2015, which means there will be no increase.
Employment law editor at XpertHR has said “it will be a blow to many employees that these rates have been frozen.”
Statutory sick pay is also frozen at the current weekly rate of £88.45.
